Best Farmers Markets in Connecticut

If you’re in search of locally sourced organic food, then you need to check out one of the many farmers’ markets in Connecticut. But with nearly a hundred farmer’s markets in the state, it can be overwhelming to decide where to shop.

That’s why I recently visited all of the most popular farmer’s markets in CT to see which ones are the best. Here’s what I found.

Top Farmers Markets in Connecticut

1. Coventry Farmers’ Market

The Coventry Farmers Market is widely considered to be one of the best farmers markets in Connecticut. It’s a seasonal market that’s open every Sunday from June through October.

You’ll find a wide range of Connecticut-grown produce and Connecticut-made products from around the state. Plus, they often have music and a long list of full-time and guest vendors that sell at the market.

2. CitySeed Wooster Square Farmers’ Market in New Haven

CitySeed Wooster Square Farmers’ Market is a popular farmers market in New Haven with a ton of variety. It’s an open-air, producer-only market that’s open from 9 am to 1 pm on Saturdays.

This CT farmers market often has live music and sells locally grown products like fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, seafood, artisan bread, milk, cheese, and specialty food items. The vendors here accept cash, credit, and debit cards, along with SNAP.

3. Ellington Farmers Market Inc.

Ellington Farmers Market is one of the Connecticut farmers markets found in the northern part of the state. This market is open in both summer and winter seasons.

You can find a wide range of foods here, including local produce, farm products, baked goods, and specialty foods. Ellington Farmers Market also has a weekly theme and often plays live music.

5. Bozrah Farmers Market

The Bozrah Farmers Market is another top farmers market in Connecticut. It’s a seasonal market for local farmers which runs from July through October and is open on Fridays from 4 to 7 pm.

The local market offers goods like meats, fruits, vegetables, and baked goods. There is also food made to order like hotdogs, BBQ, popcorn, and ice cream, making the farmers market feel like a small fair.

6. Bethel Farmers’ Market

The Bethel Farmers’ Market is a great farm fresh market in Bethel that was started in 1981. They are open on Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm.

The vendors offer goods like fruits, vegetables, meats, pastries, homemade jams, and salsas. They also have home goods like soaps too. This is the best farmers market to visit if you live in the Danbury-Waterbury area.

7. Regional Market in Hartford, CT

The Regional Market is a popular farmers market in CT found in Hartford. The market was opened as a central location for farmers and wholesalers to sell their agricultural products directly to shoppers.

It’s a large market that covers 32 acres of warehouse space. There’s a solid selection of produce and plants available every weekend from 6 to 9 am.

8. Wethersfield Farmers’ Market

The Wethersfield Farmers’ Market is another one of Connecticut’s farm markets located in the central part of the state. The market is open every Thursday from June to October from 3 to 6 pm.

This place is CT Grown certified, meaning that everything is made in the state of Connecticut. They have over 30 vendors that offer local and organic produce, flowers, honey, dairy products, and baked goods.

This farmer’s market is also very kid-friendly, as they often have regular events with live music, face painters, and balloon artists.

9. Littel Acres Farm Market

Littel Acres Farm Market is one of CT’s farmer’s markets found not too far from the Wethersfield Farmers’ Market. Located in Glastonbury, this market specializes in orchard fruit and heirloom tomatoes.

In addition to the fresh produce, the market also sells plants, home decor items, and baked goods. If you’re into gardening, I highly recommend picking up one of their hanging baskets.

10. Shelton Farmers Market

The Shelton Farmers Market is an outdoor market that features a wide range of local farms. All of the farmers here are verified local growers, so you can be certain that the produce is grown directly by the farmers selling it.

You can buy a range of vegetables, fruits, baked goods, herbal teas, and honey at the market. Plus, you can often find homemade soaps and blankets at affordable prices.

This is one of the CT farmers markets that are seasonal, so they’re only open from May through October. During those months you can visit every Saturday from 9 am to 12 pm.

11. Stonington Farmers Market

The Stonington Farmers Market is located at The Velvet Mill. This Connecticut farmers market runs year-round from 9 am 12 pm.

In the summer the market is located outdoors and in the winter, it’s located indoors. There are a lot of items sold here, including fruits, vegetables, bread, pies, jams, dairy products, meat, seafood, and maple syrup to name a few.

Some vendors also sell prepared foods like meat pies, soups, baked goods, and breakfast sandwiches.
