There are only two official casinos in Connecticut. However, depending on which part of the state you live in, you may be closer to one of the casinos found just over the state border.

Top Connecticut Casino Resorts
Mohegan Sun – Montville, CT
Mohegan Sun is the most popular casino in Connecticut. Opening in 1996, this adult playground offers a ton of attractions, including fine dining, live entertainment, shopping, posh hotel accommodations, spas, and some of the best nightlife in the state.
This Connecticut casino is equipped with 3 major entertainment venues, where people come from across the state to see live concerts, comedy shows, and sporting events. There’s also a fantastic arcade daycare that will take of your kids while you’re out having fun.
The casino itself features plenty of ways to play, including slot machines, various table games, a state-of-the-art poker room, and a sports book. The slots at Mohegan Sun have about a 92% payback rate, which means you have an 8% chance of winning on average. These gambling percentages are actually very good compared to other casinos.

Foxwoods Resort Casino – Mashantucket, CT
Foxwoods Resort Casino is the second casino in CT. Like Mohegan Sun, Foxwoods is run on an Indian reservation in the same general area in southeastern Connecticut. In fact, the two casinos are only about 15 minutes apart.
The casino features plenty of luxury amenities, including gourmet restaurants, amazing spas, an award-winning golf course, live shows, a massive zipline, and some of the best outlet shopping in CT. There are also a number of bars, along with a popular nightclub.
For gambling, you can bet on sports, poker, bingo, keno, slots, and table games like blackjack, roulette, craps, and mini-baccarat. The games at Foxwoods have very similar gambling odds to the games at Mohegan Sun.

MGM Springfield – Springfield, MA
If you live in northern Connecticut, the two Connecticut casinos are likely more than an hour’s drive away. So if you live in Hartford County, I also recommend that you check out the MGM in Springfield.
This casino isn’t as large as Mohegan or Foxwoods, but it has several good amenities like a pool, bowling, a sports bar, restaurants, an ice rink, live entertainment, and relatively affordable hotel rooms.
Gaming at the MGM is solid as well since they have slots, table games, and a poker room. Just know that slot payouts at the MGM are about 1% lower on average compared to the 2 Connecticut casino resorts. At the time of writing, sports betting recently became legal in Massachusetts. So you may be able to bet on sports at this casino in the near future as well.

Empire City Casino – Yonkers, NY
The Empire City Casino is a great casino to visit if you live in the Greenwich-Stamford area. It’s located closer than the two casinos in Connecticut, however, it’s certainly not as luxurious.
There are restaurants and entertainment options at this casino, but the selection is very limited. Another thing worth noting is that there is no hotel on the property, so you must stay at one of the hotels near the casino.
This MGM-run gaming property offers a variety of games like slot machines, video poker, keno, and blackjack, along with on-site horse racing. The payout rate for slots at this casino is very similar to both Mohegan Sun and the Foxwoods Resort Casino.

Online Gambling in Connecticut
While there are advantages to going to one of the casinos in CT, you don’t have to visit a physical casino to gamble in Connecticut. Connecticut legalized online casinos in late 2021. But, with that being said, it’s pretty clear that casino gambling is more fun than wagering online.
And although online gambling is now legal in Connecticut, there are some restrictions for CT gaming. For example, you must be at least 18 years old to participate in fantasy sports and at least 21 years old to participate in sports betting, online casino gambling, or in-person casino gambling.

Those are Connecticut’s top casinos along with a few gaming properties located right over the state border. In my opinion, the Mohegan Sun Casino is the best, followed closely by the Foxwoods Resort Casino.
There was an additional proposed casino to be built in East Windsor as well. However, the joint venture between the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and the Mohegan Tribe of Indians of Connecticut was halted due to a new Connecticut gaming agreement that was passed by the state.
