Beaches in Stonington, CT (& Others Nearby)
If you’re looking for a spot to swim in Stonington, you’re in the right place. I recently took a trip to all of the most popular beaches in southeastern Connecticut to see which ones are the best.
Not all CT beaches are created equal, so it’s important that you pick the right one. So without further ado, here’s my roundup of the top beaches in Stonington, CT.
Top Beaches in Stonington, Connecticut
1. DuBois Beach
DuBois Beach is the most notable beach in Stonington. You can find it at the tip of Stonington Point, right next to the Stonington Lighthouse Museum.
It’s a small beach with very gentle waves, so it’s great for families with small children. Seasonal lifeguards patrol the beach as well.
Other amenities at DuBois Beach include a shaded gazebo, a dock, and a couple of jetties which are perfect for crabbing.
If you live in the Mystic or Stonington area, you’re able to purchase a season pass to the beach. Visitors can get a day pass for $10.
- Location: 1 Water St, Stonington, CT
2. Williams Beach Park
Williams Beach Park is another popular Stonington beach. It’s located in Mystic, which is the touristy part of Stonington.
It’s a great place to take your kids swimming if you live nearby. Just be aware that water shoes are recommended since the beach is a bit rocky.
Williams Beach Park also has a playground, picnic tables, and a baseball field. This public beach can be found right next to the Mystic YMCA.
- Location: 1 Harry Austin Dr, Mystic, CT
3. Eastern Point Beach
Eastern Point Beach is another great beach near Stonington. Located one town over in Groton, this sandy beach offers amenities like a snack bar, beach volleyball courts, basketball courts, and a bathhouse.
Plus, the beach offers a fantastic view of the Thames River and Long Island Sound from the shore.
- Location: 1 Beach Pond Rd, Groton, CT
4. Misquamicut State Beach
Misquamicut State Beach is one of the best beaches in southern New England. It’s located in Rhode Island, but the beach is only about a 20-minute drive from Stonington, Connecticut.
The waves here are large in comparison to the other beaches on this list because the beach opens up into the Atlantic Ocean instead of Long Island Sound. This makes the beach ideal for body surfing.
You can also enjoy other activities like swimming, fishing, crabbing, and picnicking. Plus, the beach has a kayak launch, a playground, a shaded pavilion, concession stands, and heated indoor showers.
- Location: 257 Atlantic Ave, Westerly, RI
5. Napatree Point Conservation Area
The Napatree Point Conservation Area is another beach found on the Connecticut-Rhode Island border near Stonington.
This beach isn’t too far from Misquamicut, but it’s more a nature preserve with hiking trails than a swimming and recreation beach.
If you enjoy bird watching or walking around in nature, I highly recommend visiting this beach.
- Location: Fort Rd, Westerly, RI
