There are several notable beaches in Groton, CT. But which ones are worth visiting? I decided to find out for myself.

Top Beaches in Groton, Connecticut

1. Eastern Point Beach

Eastern Point Beach is one of the top Groton beaches. This public beach is great for families since the water isn’t too deep.

Aside from the sandy beach, there is a range of amenities offered here including a snack bar, basketball courts, volleyball courts, restrooms, and showers.

Plus, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the Thames River and Long Island Sound.

2. Esker Point Beach

Esker Point Beach is another fantastic beach in Groton. It’s a small, man-made beach but it’s a great place to go swimming for the day.

The park features fun amenities for families like beach volleyball courts, a watercraft launching area, shaded picnic areas, bathrooms, and an outdoor shower. Just be aware that there are no lifeguards.

There is plenty of parking here, which is free for both residents and non-residents. Esker Point Beach is one of the more pet-friendly beaches in Connecticut as well.

3. Bluff Point Beach

Bluff Point Beach is a great state park found on the Groton coastline. The beach here offers beautiful unobstructed views of the ocean.

This Groton beach probably isn’t the best place for swimming, but it’s an excellent spot to go for a peaceful walk along the water.

Other activities available at Bluff Point include hiking, biking, horseback riding, fishing, and kayaking.

4. Avery Point Beach

Avery Point Beach is one more beach in Groton. It’s located right next to the regional Uconn campus on Avery Point.

The beach offers a beautiful view of Long Island Sound and some decent fishing as well. However, it’s not the best beach to go for a swim in the area.

5. Ocean Beach Park

Ocean Beach Park is another beach near Groton. Located in the neighboring town of New London, this large beach has some of the nicest sand in CT, along with some of the best waves.

Plus, there are plenty of amenities available here including a boardwalk, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, water slides, a splash pad, mini golf, and an amusement park.

There is a parking fee at the beach, which is usually $30 during the week and $35 on weekends. The fee covers admission to the park.
